    What a 2-Hour vs 4-Hour Maid Visit Covers: A Room-by-Room Checklist

UrbanMop maid cleaning a Dubai apartment kitchen during an hourly maid visit

When you book an hourly maid service in Dubai, the hours you pick decide what actually gets done. Two hours and four hours are the most common choices, but they are very different visits. This room-by-room checklist shows what each one realistically covers, so you can book the right length and know what to expect when the maid arrives.

If you are still working out how many hours your home needs overall, start with our studio-to-villa guide to cleaning hours. This post picks up from there and looks at what happens inside those hours.

    The short answer

A 2-hour visit is a maintenance clean. It keeps a studio or 1BHK that is cleaned every week fresh: floors, one bathroom, the kitchen surfaces and a general tidy.

A 4-hour visit has room for detail. It covers a 2BHK or a larger apartment, a second bathroom, and the extra jobs that never fit into a short slot, such as ironing, the inside of the fridge or the balcony.

The checklists below assume one maid and a home in normal day-to-day condition. A first visit, a longer gap between cleans, pets or a busy household all take more time.

    Room-by-room checklist: 2 hours vs 4 hours

Room Typical 2-hour visit What a 4-hour visit adds
Kitchen Wash dishes, wipe counters, stove top and sink, empty the bin Wipe cabinet fronts and appliance exteriors, clean inside the microwave, clean inside the fridge (rotate weekly)
Bathroom One bathroom: toilet, sink, shower or tub, mirror, floor Second bathroom, scrub shower glass and tiles more thoroughly, wipe cabinets and fittings
Bedrooms Make beds, dust reachable surfaces, floors Change bed linen, tidy wardrobes or shelves, dust skirting and furniture tops
Living area Tidy, dust surfaces, sweep and mop Dust décor and shelves item by item, wipe doors and switches, clean under movable furniture
Balcony Usually not included Sweep the sand and dust, wipe the railing and the inside of the balcony door glass
Laundry Start a wash if time allows Wash, hang or fold, and iron a basket

Treat this as a planning guide rather than a fixed menu. Your maid works to your priorities, so tell her what matters most and she will start there.

    What fits into 2 hours

Two hours goes quickly. In a studio or 1BHK that is cleaned weekly, a maid can usually work through:

    • Kitchen: dishes, counters, the stove top and the sink.
    • One bathroom: toilet, sink, shower and mirror, then the floor.
    • Bedroom and living area: beds made, surfaces dusted, things put back in place.
    • Floors throughout: swept and mopped, finishing at the front door.
    • Bins: emptied and relined.

What usually does not fit: ironing, inside appliances, windows, balconies and a second bathroom. If you add one of these, something else on the list gets less time.

    What 4 hours adds

Four hours is not just "twice the cleaning". The extra time goes into the jobs that make a home feel properly looked after:

    • A second bathroom, cleaned to the same standard as the first.
    • Laundry and ironing. A full basket of ironing can take an hour on its own.
    • Kitchen detail: cabinet fronts, appliance exteriors and the inside of the microwave or fridge.
    • The balcony. In Dubai, sand and dust build up on balconies and sliding doors quickly, and they take longer than they look.
    • Bed linen changes and a tidy of wardrobes or kids' rooms.

For a 2BHK cleaned weekly, 4 hours is often the point where the visit stops feeling rushed.

Two 2-hour visits or one 4-hour visit

Both add up to the same time each week, but they suit different homes.

    • Two shorter visits work well for families, where dishes, laundry and floors build up within a few days.
    • One longer visit works well for singles and couples who are out all day and want one thorough reset each week.

If your household needs regular help on fixed days, our guide to part-time maid services for busy families explains how a set schedule can work.

When an hourly visit is not the right booking

Some jobs are bigger than any regular maid visit. Grout, the inside of every cabinet, behind appliances and built-up grime after a move or renovation need a full deep cleaning by a team. Book that once, then keep the home in shape with shorter weekly maid visits.

The same goes for sofas, carpets and mattresses. If they need a proper clean rather than a vacuum, a dedicated sofa, carpet and mattress cleaning booking is the better choice.

How to get more from every hour

    1. List your top three tasks. Write them down or tell the maid when she arrives.
    2. Clear clutter first. Time spent picking things up off the floor is time not spent cleaning.
    3. Rotate the extras. Fridge one week, balcony the next, wardrobes the week after.
    4. Point out delicate surfaces such as marble, wood or polished steel.
    5. Rebook the same maid. Once she knows your home, she works faster.
